We regretfully announce the line-of-duty death of Sergeant Heather Glenn of the Tell City Police Department in Indiana.

On the evening of July 2nd, Sergeant Glenn was sent to Perry County Memorial Hospital to interview a patient regarding a domestic assault. Sergeant Glenn obtained information, related it to other officers, and they began to attempt to locate the assailant.

Early the next morning, the patient reported to hospital staff that the assailant was on his way there. Officers were alerted, responded to the hospital, and confronted the assailant.

The suspect resisted as officers attempted to take him into custody. Sergeant Glenn deployed a taser, but it had no effect. As the struggle continued, the suspect pulled a gun and fired. Sergeant Glenn and the other officers returned fire. When the shooting ended, Sergeant Glenn and the suspect had both received fatal wounds.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:50 a.m. (Central).

Sergeant Glenn was 47 years old and a 20-year law enforcement veteran, including previous service with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office. She was not married.

Please keep the Glenn and Perry County law enforcement families in your thoughts and prayers.
