With regret, we announce the line-of-duty death of Assistant Chief Kyle Osgood of the Farmland Volunteer Fire Department in Farmland, Indiana. (Farmland is approximately 15 miles east of Muncie.)
Assistant Chief Osgood was killed in an apparatus rollover crash as the tanker approached an S-curve while responding to a barn fire. The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. near Randolph County Road 1000-W and County Road 400 North.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Firefighter Zachary Lee was with Assistant Chief Osgood and was critically injured in the crash. He was transported via medical helicopter to a Fort Wayne Hospital.
Assistant Chief Osgood had been a fixture at the firehouse since he was a child, as his grandfather previously served as Chief.
He is survived by his wife, Darby, and their two-year-old son.
Please keep the Osgood, Lee, and Farmland Volunteer Fire Department families in your thoughts and prayers.
